The thing that ruins a family safari is a nine-hour driving day. This itinerary has none. Every leg is under four hours, every base has a pool or a river, and the pace assumes somebody will need a quiet afternoon.

Day01
Arrive Arusha
Collected at the airport and taken to a garden lodge on the edge of town. Nothing scheduled — this day exists so the trip does not start tired.

Day02
Tarangire
A short drive to the gate and straight into elephants, which is the right way to begin. Afternoon along the river bed.

Day03
Tarangire, full day
A full day in the park at a child's pace: out early, back for lunch and the pool, out again at four.

Day04
Lake Manyara and the rim
The groundwater forest in the morning — monkeys, hornbills, and a good short walk — then up to the crater rim.

Day05
The crater floor
Down at first light for a morning on the floor. Everything is close and easy to see, which is exactly what a seven-year-old needs.

Day06
Into the Serengeti
Down through Oldupai and onto the plains, arriving for the afternoon light.

Day07
Seronera
A full day in the valley, broken by a long lunch back at camp.

Day08
Fly back to Arusha
A final dawn drive, breakfast, then the 75-minute scheduled flight from Seronera — which is the best hour of the trip for anyone who likes maps.
